Day 3

Hello everybody,

sorry if i neglected you these days but I had really a difficult time here in Kenya. However, I have many things to tell you. So, let’s start with my third day when I went to visit Nairobi centre with my tutor Lydia who gave me all the information about the capital of Kenya.

On Monday morning I left Buru Buru, the district where I lived in the East of Nairobi and I went with her to the south , where there is the industrial area. This is not exactly what in Europe we call “industrial area” but I am in Africa and so the situation is just a little bit different J! Lydia showed also me one of the biggest slums in Nairobi called “Kibere”, which was really impressive to my eyes. Then, we moved to the Giraffe centre , where I started my first Safari in Africa and I really enjoyed it.

The centre of Nairobi is quite different from the rest of the capital, where you can clearly notice the low standard of living. It is full of beautiful buildings ( like the new law courts which is not working yet) , offices,  and ministries but the “magic world of Nairobi” lasts just few kilometres and then ruins again…! Nevertheless, the main symbol of the city , and also of the country, is represented by a park , called “ Uhuru” which symbolize the freedom as well as the flag settled only last September , when they changed their Constitution. Finally, our last stage was The National Museum of Kenya which is about the human and animal evolution and it is really fascinating.

After lunch, Lydia made me a wonderful surprise because she brought me to a place where, thanks to volunteers’ money, local people are building a new school for orphan children , who live there and making better the conditions of their accomodation, especially those of the toilets which are currently really bad. So, I met these lovely kids who were so sweet and friendly with me….I hope to see them again as soon as possible !

On the other hand, when I came back home there was a terrible surprise : the lack of electricity. At first, it was not a problem because sometimes it also happens in my home town but just for a few hours, not for 24 hours !!! As a consequence, my mobile phone was not charge and my laptop, as well (I think that my mother in those moments was going mad ! ).

In addition , I went to have dinner with my german friends and they brought me to an Ethiopian restaurant where we could only have spicy food and I cannot have this kind of stuff, so I didn’t eat anything J and during the night I felt really bad but this is not the worst thing that happened ! The reason was that John, my host family, and I have different habits so he loves drinking a lot while, as you know, I don’t drink at all so it was really borig waiting that he finished his beers until midnight and longer…I wanted to come back home because the following day I had to wake up very early but he didn’t listen to me, we argued just a little bit and then, finally, we came back home.

Despite this episode, John is a nice person, he and his son are really good cooks and his laugh is really funny …so I think I will forgive him J

I have still many things to tell you, I have to keep you update about days 4  - 5 and 6…but I don’t have time right now, oh I have to explain you so many things J

Thank you for your attentions and support

And…

To be continued….
