Hello everybody,
As i promised, I’m here for sharing with you my first two days in Africa .
I arrived here, in Nairobi (Kenya ) just yesterday, at lunch time after a long journey lasted 8 hours plus a stop at Addis Abeba (Ethiopia ) of other 2 hours. I didn’t sleep at all throughout the night on the plane because of the hostesses who were worse than our weaky weaky person J!
Few hours ago I had my first impact with African reality, or at least that one of Nairobi , the capital of Kenya . To my eyes, it was really impressive because I saw exactly what I’ve always seen on tv or on postcards. Currently I am in the east of Nairobi , which is the house of middle and lower class , 15 minutes from the main airport, but my tutor Lydia and I took almost 1 hour to go home by car because of the traffic.
As I said, I was very shocked by the sight of this country : there are a lot of disaster areas, especially on the streets, where there are frequent holes ; most drivers are crazy because the public trasport was privatized, so the several drivers are in competition and speed in order to arrive to the final destination as soon as possible. The hygienic and health conditions are not so good, especially in the shops along the streets and everywhere is full of ruins but local people continue to tell me that the situation is getting better and better in comparison with 5 or 6 years ago.
On the other hand, you know, the first song I listened when I arrived was a 2pac’s one and it cannot be by chance . I don’t know if all of you knew that rapper who died prematurely, but if you know him , you can easily associate the real soul of kenyan people with his smile, his rage and his determination. People , here, are in fact very friendly and the best example of that is my tutor, John, who put me up and his son, Eric who cooked me some local food, called “Ugali” and I just want let u see, showing a picture of that.
Moreover, according to the fact that Kenya was a british colony a long time ago, people here have a lot of american and english habits : They watch a lot of American tv , they love the tea and they have cats in their house as I can witness with my picture J!
In addition, I met two german sisters, who are very nice and we spent some time together, going to know Nairobi by night. Consequently, we discovered some lovely pubs where we stayed with their african friends and then, finally , after being awake for approximately 32 consecutive hours I went to sleep.
I hope to have satisfied all your curiosità for the moment , and I promise to keep you update with what It will happen tomorrow and the next days.
Thank you for your attentions
Lots of love
