Good evening everybody !!!
How are u ?
Today, I’m feeling better but I cannot tell u why unless I have not finished to tell u about days 4 -5 and 6…
So , Tuesday was probably the most difficult day here, in Kenya , because I woke up early in the morning for going to my first day of work as a journalist but I had a terrible surprise : my journalism placement in Nairobi was cancelled because no journalist was available to follow me.
As a consequence Lydia and John proposed me to move to Mombasa and start my journalism placement there and so I did.
I had a rest for all the day, doing nothing because of the lack of electricity and getting nervous….I was really confused about the situation and a little bit disappointed by the organization…However, at night I moved to Mombasa by bus and it was a long journey lasted until 6 am.
On Wednesday morning, I knew Sam, my tutor here in Mombasa and my host family, a lovely couple (Pep and Ref) who assured me that I would have a great time in this country !
After that I went to sleep for a couple of hours and then Sam gave me the chance of doing a city tour. So, at first we went to the “Fort Jesus”, which is a portoguese fortress built in 1593, where a very interesting guide explained me all the history of Kenya and then we went to visit “The Old City”, where there is the famous Biashara street, full of indian and arab markets.
In the evening Sam , NJ , a nice guy who is an artist and I went to have a drink at the Rooftop, which is one of the best pub here in Mombasa and then we went to have dinner.
My sixth day here was very special because Sam and I went to a children orphanage , which was opened by two brothers , Martin and Denis, two wonderful people who , despite a difficult life, screwed up their’s courage and made many kids (some without parents and others with HIV) happy. After this, I tasted some lovely african coconuts but Sam and I had a problem : there was no journalist available to follow me neither here in Mombasa ….oh I started to be so worried about this situation that I immediately sent an e-mail to Nicholas Pearse, the head of the organization to complain about that.
So, on Friday finally I got my place at a national radio station, called Baraka FM, with a senior reporter , called Diana and I will start to work there on Monday morning. I spent all the day with Mary, a founder of a children community not to far from Ratna , which is the area where I live, and I was the teacher of some kids just for a day, a special one J. She is a fantastic person that started a project of free education with 7 children and now they have 302 .They also provide them with water and food and I think that it is an amazing result J!
So,not you know why I’m feeling better J….Also, I’ve just come back home from the swimming pool, which is part of a complex called Reef , such a nice place J’cause here is so hot that the best thing is just diving into the water J!
I’m so happy now…thank you for your attention and for your support during the past difficult days!
Lots of love
Dont worry about the missing organization , this is Africa :D :D :D
